Candlelight Farms is such a lovely setting for your outdoor wedding. What do you do when it’s pouring rain on your wedding day and you have your ceremony planned outside? You roll with it and pray the rain stops. That is exactly what Kayla and Matt did with a cool as a cucumber, relaxed attitude. Nothing was going to stop them from enjoying each other on their wedding day. There is something really beautiful about a rainy day, of that feeling of hope and anticipation that is so palpable.  Read on to hear this couples experience and helpful advice.

Kayla says, “There’s so many memorable moments from our wedding. I was just putting my dress on, moments before the ceremony, when our caterer, Stephanie burst into the bridal suite to announce the rain had finally stopped and she was going to set up the ceremony outside! This was all I wanted and had hoped for all day long. It felt like a small miracle to look out the window and see our guests filing in and the sun trying to peek through the clouds. What came next was the geese flying over me as I walked down the aisle. Everyone had a laugh and it gave me this moment of clarity and realization that holy smokes, this is our wedding and everyone we love is sitting here watching us about to say I do.  Plus, we have the most incredible photo as a result. Last but not least, would be making our entrance into the reception, I was simply excited to be announced as Matt’s wife.” Matt’s most memorable moment, “Easy. Seeing Kayla walk out of the Inn and down the aisle.”

Special details that meant the most to Kayla and Matt. “The entire getting ready process and day spent with our bridal party and family felt incredibly special to us. My dad laid out a beautiful spread of food for us at the Inn and we got to spend a very cozy, rainy morning snacking, sipping champagne and being together. Matt and his guys had a spread of their own in the club house with cut hole boards and other games to play which was so cool. We were on the same property and felt so near to each other all day without actually seeing one another before the ceremony! The food and music choices also felt very personal and important in our planning. We were so thrilled with Forks & Fingers because they took inspiration from our most favorite things to create an upscale menu customized for our event.

“Don’t procrastinate when planning your own wedding! Some of the minute details felt so overwhelming, I didn’t know where to start, but waiting only makes things worse. Make a list, stay organized, and set reasonable goals for planning and making decisions one by one and you’ll be golden. Also, book with vendors that you connect with. I’m so happy everyone we chose we quickly and easily formed relationships with because you’ll be dealing with one another quite a bit! I felt like I could be blatantly honest with everyone we worked with, requests were never too big, and everyone was willing to work with us to achieve our end goal. Especially you Corey, what other photographer will also pick up and deliver your flowers the day of!?”

As their photographer, it gave me goosebumps when the geese flew over the ceremony and sang their song. Seeing Matt’s reaction to his beautiful bride and the added bonus of the rain stopping so they could have their outdoor wedding was pure magic. Picking up Kayla’s flowers on my way to the wedding was the least I could do on her wedding day. If I can do anything to make my couples feel more at ease, I won’t even give it a second thought. I love that this couple supported local, organic florists and caterers. Even better, Nancy from Candlelight Farms grows her own organic vegetables and doesn’t use pesticides her property.
