It has been a favorite for many of my couples who have gotten married here over the years. Walnut Hill Park Rose Garden in New Britain

Walnut Hill Park Rose Garden is a treasure trove of natural and cultivated beauty! Every corner of the rose-adorned garden is idyllic. The pathways through shaded alcoves and charming fountains provide the perfect backdrop for an intimate ceremony. The park also has a rich history as a cultural landmark in New Britain including a WWI monument and lots of community support throughout its lifetime.

You will need to contact the gardens to request a ceremony permit (however that may be waived for a small elopement.) A minimum $100 donation is recommended to hold your reservation and liability insurance is required.

Hollister House Gardens in Litchfield Hills

The garden sits beautifully on a sloping, terraced site in the rolling hills of Litchfield County in northwestern Connecticut. Featuring an American interpretation of such classic English gardens as formal in its structure but then also informal and rather wild in its style of planting. Just like a love story.

Various 18th-century barns and outbuildings are visible from the garden and further help to root it in the history of the place. The garden unfolds in successive layers of space and color with delightful informal vistas from one section to the next. Eight-to-ten-foot walls and hedges define the progression of garden spaces – “rooms” as the English like to say – and create a firm architectural framework for the romantic abundance of the plantings. A winding brook and a large pond at the bottom of the lawn add to the variety of the garden scene.

Bartless Arboretum & Gardens in Stamford

Imagine saying “I do” on one of the most beautiful properties in Fairfield County! Bartlett Arboretum stands as a testament to the marriage of architecture and nature. The garden unfolds with a carefully curated design, incorporating diverse plant collections, thematic gardens, and captivating landscapes. From the majestic tree canopies to the tranquil water features. Every element is artfully arranged, creating a harmonious symphony of colors and textures.

While you or your photographer will need to be (or become) a member of the gardens, its a small cost to use the stunning grounds for your wedding!

Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington

Nestled in the heart of Farmington, the Hill-Stead Museum is not just a museum but a historical treasure surrounded by 152 acres of lush gardens! Its Sunken Garden is a masterpiece of horticultural art, offering a secluded and romantic setting for an elopement. Picture your ceremony amidst vibrant blooms and the tranquil backdrop of this colonial revival estate. For more information, visit Hill-Stead Museum’s website.

This early 18th-century home, set against the backdrop of more than an acre of formal gardens, offers an intimate and evocative setting for elopements. The garden, lovingly maintained, features a variety of perennials, biennials, and annual plantings, making it a vibrant setting for your special day from spring through fall. The property’s rich history and beautiful landscapes provide a unique and charming locale for couples seeking a garden ceremony with a touch of historical elegance.

Topsmead in Litchfield, CT

For couples dreaming of an elopement surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, Topsmead State Forest presents a picture-perfect setting. Spread across hundreds of acres, this former private estate now offers the public a glimpse into a tranquil world of diverse landscapes. From the rustic charm of its woodlands to the pastoral peace of its fields and the cultivated beauty of its gardens, Topsmead provides a variety of natural backdrops for your ceremony. Eolia Mansion from a Couple’s Perspective

Covid delayed Olivia and Andrews’s wedding for over a year and rain couldn’t dampen their spirits. This couple had glowing smiles and laughter all day long. Jakkelyn Iris added even more botanical magic to the already beautiful gardens with her floral designs. Jen Strunk Events and I navigated a rainy day wedding with ease so this couple could enjoy themselves all day long with their beloved friends and family. Here is Olivia and Andrew’s perspective on their magical rainy day wedding:

What did you love about your wedding location?

“The beautiful gardens! Eolia Mansion is truly magical and is surrounded by the most colorful flowers. There were so many places for us to take incredible photos and we really appreciated our amazing photographer who was familiar with the venue and helped us pick the best locations for pictures!”

What memory from your wedding do you remember the most strongly? What part of the day had the most effect on you or your relationship?

“Our favorite memory from our wedding was our first look. Seeing Andrew in his tux and watching him see me in my dress for the first time was this amazing “OMG this is really happening we are about to be husband and wife” moment. We got engaged in 2018 and then had to reschedule our wedding because of Covid. Three years is a long time and we both felt like our first look was this shared moment where it all finally felt real.”

You handled the rain like pros. Tell me how you really felt about it raining on your day and if you could do anything different, would you?

“Listening to Ironic by Alanis Morissette on repeat with our friends and family belting out “it’s like raaaaiiinnnn on your wedding day” definitely made the day more fun. Bad weather on your wedding day is never ideal but it’s also something you have no control over. I don’t think we would do anything differently. We were surrounded by an amazing team of vendors and who helped us navigate the rain and make the most of our special day!”

What advice can you give to future couples who are getting married?

“Don’t sweat the small stuff and do whatever makes you and your partner happy! It’s your wedding day and you both should enjoy every minute of it.”
